DePue Community Schools Holds Graduation

May 29, 2009, DePue Community School District #103 held the annual graduation exercises for 8th and 12th grades. The graduation ceremonies were held in the gym. Family and friends attended the ceremonies.

For the 8th grade graduation, the students walked in to the Processional played by Mrs. Susan Garvin, 4th grade teacher at DePue Elementary School. The Welcome Speech was given by Jessica Gavina, then the 8th grade girls sang "The Climb". Clayton Lopez, gave the Salutatory Address.

The Booster Club Scholarship Award was presented by Mr. Ron Marquez, the Presidential Education Awards and the Blanche Widmar Citizenship Award were presented by Principal Robin Staudenmeier. The Valedictory Address for the 8th graders was given by Grant Bosnich. The entire 8th grade class sang "Lean On Me". (both musical selections were directed by Ms. Jeanne Pedersen-Smith Music Teacher at DePue Schools. Maggie Lopez read the poem, "We Leave By Maggie & Madison".

The Presentation of the 8th graders was given by Principal Staudenmeier and Daniel Cervantes read the names of the 8th grade students as they received their diplomas.

Class sponsor of the 8th graders is Mrs. Rosemary Goossens. The Class colors were silver and black and the class flower was the white rose. The Class motto was "You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who will decide where you go."

After a ten minute intermission, the Class of 2009 graduation was held. During intermission, the student slide show was running. It was created by Adriana Reyes and Rhiannon Espinoza. The Processional again was performed by Mrs. Garvin. Welcome was given by Sonliam Saechao. Mrs. Anne Chandler Superintendent of DePue Schools presented the Brenda Tinges Citizenship Award. The D.A.R.Award was presented by Guidance Counselor Mrs. Shelly Gorenz.

The Marine corp Distinguished Athletic Award was presented. Mrs.Chandler then presented the Class of 1939 Scholarship Award and the Presidential Education Award. Senior Rhiannon Espinoza presented gifts to the room parents. The Salutatory address was given by Michael Pangricic and the Valedictory address was given by Anna Puga.

Mrs. Chandler presented the Senior Class of 2009. Adriana Reyes read classmates’ names for the diploma presentation. The newly graduated Class of 2009 marched out to "Stand by Me."

Honor Guards were Juniors Samantha Cappello and Cortland Klinefelter. Class Sponsor is Mrs. Roberta Butler. Room Parents included Cheryl Rios, Sandy Schultz, Leticia Puga, Silvia Reyes, and Muang Saechao. The Class of 2009 Class Motto is "The question isn’t who is going to let us, it’s who’s going to stop us.". Class colors were orange and blue and the class flower was white rose with silver trim.
