Last week the H.S. Boys Basketball continued their season by playing Ottawa Marquette Crusaders on Thursday. Despite staying very close in the first quarter the team suffered a 30 pt loss. Coaches Gilbert Moreno and Charles Klinefelter attributed the loss to all the turnovers the team had. Ottawa Marquette had capitalized on the turnovers by scoring more than 20 fast break points. The Little Giants then started the Tri-County Tournament on Saturday. They played Roanoke-Benson in their first game. The Little Giants stayed around and where only down by 10 points going into the half before committing four turnovers in a two minute span which translated into an 18 point lead for Roanoke-Benson. The Little Giants ended the game with an abysmal second half leading to a 40 point loss. The Little Giants continue the tournament by playing Henry for 9th place on Thursday.     by: Cortland Klinefelter

The Training for using the Macs has begun for the teachers. Because the programs on the Macs are so much different from the PCs the teachers have to go through the various programs. The instructor Chuck Phillips talked about what the teachers have been doing on the Macs during training. They have been using iMovie; they have learned how to use podcasts, and iWork, which is similar to Microsoft Office. This week the teachers have commenced training by learning to use the iPod Touches. The teachers have taken the role of students, they have to finish assignments and also stand in front of the class and present. The training sessions for the teachers will take a short break in February and then it will start back up in March, April, and May. The Juniors have tested the laptops by using it for ACT prep and Keytrain. The Junior High students and teachers are testing the iPods to see if they are class ready. Mrs. Schroeder, Junior High Teacher, is having her students use them the to write online journals and she is also having her 8th graders write to their pen pals. Mrs. Goossens, Junior High Math Teacher, is having her students use them for math. Mrs. Rossman, Tech Advisor, provided information that once the teachers are done with training the technology will be offered to the students although they have to abide by the teachers rule for use. –by: Cortland Klinefelter

Advanced Art Class Builds Their Own Space

Advanced Art students Jessica  G., Lorena E., Evan I., Diana L., Alex A., and Jose S., are working diligently on The Locker Project.  The students began  this project because  they wanted something that  involved team work, and had to do with environments and personal spaces. Each student has the opportunity to  design their ideal lockers.  Some will be using fabrics, others will be doing collages, and there will even be some lights in one locker. The students have been busy cutting wood, nailing, and are now in the process of painting the frames.  These students will be taking a field trip to the paint store to choose colors within the week.  The Locker Project has to be finished by January 29th so the project can be entered in the IVCC Student Show which will run from February 8th through February 19th and is open to the public.  All of the lockers will be displayed next to each other and will be one piece instead of separate pieces.  Not only will this project be shown at the IVCC Student Show but it will also be displayed in the spring on April 17th at the DePue High School Art Show. The Locker Project will compete with art pieces from other schools in the area. Depue will be hosting the High School Art  Show  this year and everyone is welcome to attend. This is something for the Junior HIgh School students to look forward to as they come up to high school.

DHS Goes to ‘da Bulls

The Activity Club’s meeting on Monday proved to be very helpful. The Activity Club has set the date for their trip to be on Feb. 20th. They will be boarding a charter bus to Chicago where they will attend the Shed Aquarium before going the see the Chicago Bulls play later in the day. If any Activity Club member has three strikes, however, they will not be able to attend the trip go ask an Activity Club sponsor if you are not sure. Activity Club is also formulating plans for their next Fund-Raiser of the school year, the big idea right now is to have a Dodgeball Tournament in the gym and have teams compete to see which team will prove to be the best of the best. If any activity club member has an idea for the next Fund-Raiser do be shy to convey your ideas to Mrs. Butler or any other Activity Club Sponsor.

Little Giants Clobber LaMoille-Ohio

Comments Off

e Depue Little Giants Varsity Team snagged their first win of the year on Tuesday by defeating LaMoille-Ohio at home. The Depue Little Giants jumped out to a huge lead at the start of the game after scoring 22 points in the first quarter. The LaMoille-Ohio Lions fought back though in the second quarter to erase the deficit to only 2 points before half time. The Depue Little Giants despite having four of their players in foul trouble came out fired up in the third quarter ,but where only able to extend their lead to four points before LaMoille charged back to gain a 3 point lead. Then Tony Cervantes, Junior, came down and hit a three and the Little Giants never looked back in rout to their 18 point win. The week of January 4th was not as kind for the Depue Little Giants, however, as they suffered losses to Earlville-Leland and Midland.
