Senior Basketball Players Complete Season

The H.S Boys Basketball season has come to an end. The Little Giants Played the Henry Mallards last Friday for Parent Night. Kyle Wachs, Saul Rios, Anthony Waites, and Cortland Klinefelter were among the Seniors honored.  The Little Giants came out of the huddle firing and staying neck and neck with the Henry Mallards for the whole first half. It all went south however when the Little Giants came out after halftime. The Mallards outscored the Little Giants by a significant margin in the third quarter. The starters felt the fatigue of the game due to the fact of a small team. The tired Little Giants could only do so much as they watched their last home game end. On, Monday, February 22 the Little Giants started their regional tourney. The Little Giants played hard, but as our name suggests, they were too little to stand up to the colossal line up of the Midland Timberwolves. On a side note two of the Little Giants Seniors Cortland Klinefelter and Anthony Waites where able to advance in the first round of the Three-Point Shootout.

On February 19th, 2010 Bailey Carlisle donated 4,797 books to DePue Unit Schools. Bailey Carlisle goes to Dunlap Valley Middle School, in Dunlap, Illinois and he is in 8th grade. Carlisle was able to do a book drive through, “The Eagle Scout Project” in Boy Scouts U.S.A. Bailey Carlisle heard about DePue School through his mother who does work for DePue. All of the books came from various schools, libraries, as well as from his family. Bailey Carlisle said his original goal was 1,000 books, but fortunately he managed to get more than four times that amount. Thanks to Carlisle’s wonderful project, Depue students will now have access to a bigger selection of literature.

Eating Breakfast with the Principal

Who said eating breakfast with the principal isn’t fun? Seniors, Cortland Klinefelter and Lorena Escatel

might tell you something a little different! On Thursday, February 18, the two seniors accompanied by their parents, joined Mrs. Staudenmeier at a breakfast ceremony called The John Ourth Reconnection at Streator High School cafeteria. It was for Principals around the county to come together and basically “show off” two of their most well rounded students with good grades and great qualities. The Students had breakfast followed by a guest speaker who talked about life and how you should laugh often. Though, that’s not an issue for Cortland who commented on the speech “I laugh a lot during the day, I’m not going to lie!” he also said “I though the speech was inspiring”. Lorena Escatel also commented, “The ceremony was beyond my expectations, I am very thankful and feel privileged to be chosen”. Towards the end of the event they receive a plaque and a picture with Mrs. Staudenmeier.

On Saturday, February the 21st Activity Club embarked on their first trip of the year. At 11:00 a.m. the Activity Club members and chaperones boarded a charter bus. After the laughter filled ride to the City of Chicago, the members attended the Shedd Aquarium.  The Activity Club members and chaperones attended the show that the museum put on. The show was called “Fantasea” and it had lots of exciting animals in it. It had penguins, dolphins, hawks, beluga whales, and even a sea lion. After seeing the show the groups ventured over to coral reef and saw the fantastic and unique animals at the exhibit. After they were done at the Aquarium, the members went to eat at Ed DeBevics. The restaurant had a cool theme where the waiters had to be rude and crude to the patrons. After having a fun eating experience the group went over to the United Center to watch the Chicago Bulls play the Philadelphia 76ers. The Bulls came out on top after a fast paced and high flying game. After the game was over the Activity Club came back to the school and put an end to their eventful night.
